Hello, thanks for visiting my website and viewing my illustration portfolio.

How I work:

My illustrations consist of a three stage process. I work on paper, drawing in pencil before finalising the line drawing with a dip pen and ink. The drawing is then coloured with a range of different inks and paint (both watercolour and acrylic) as well as pastel. I can share the draft image with clients at each of these stages to ensure commissions are delivered on time whilst meeting all requirements of the brief.

About me and my work:

My work is based primarily upon drawing and the imagination. I have always been animated by myths, legends, fairy tales and adventure. You can see from the images posted here that my drawings are expressive and sometimes fantastical. For me its about the energy of the drawing, the spatter of the ink and the splash of bright colour across the paper. I want my illustrations to be vibrant, expressive and loud. I want my pictures to burst out of the related text, leap across imaginations and grab your attention.

In this digital age, I accept I am a bit old fashioned but using inks, mixing paint and feeling the scratch of a dip pen are where the magic is. I like to be involved in the making of the picture as much as I like to look at the final illustration. I hope that energy, sense of irreverence and enthusiasm has stayed within my work and I hope it is conveyed by the images posted on here.

Of course, I am aware that when working on a commission the last thing any interested party or potential client wants to hear about is splashes of ink and scratches of a dip pen but that's what I have always been about as a picture maker or illustrator. My images attempt to grab hold of the reader whilst celebrating the text. My illustrations are meant to be a streak across a page, a flash of colour or a spark to ignite the reader's imagination. Thats what my kind of illustration is all about.

If you are still reading maybe you think the same. At this stage, the images on this website are primarily intended for book illustration. That will change over the coming months as I add more images. Thanks for your interest in my illustration and for reading this blog.
