Drawing's not dead...

As AI continues to wrap itself around us, questions as to why I'd take the trouble to draw a picture rather than create one with an AI tool keeps coming up. The answer is very simple, whatever AI does, whatever Mac tools are available drawing is my way of communicating with this crazy mad world. I am definitely old fashioned I know but working on a mac or a screen to create (rather than fine tune) images would bore me to tears.

Finding a quiet corner and creating something entirely mine and then finalising (or ruining) it with colour or ink satisifes some primal corner of my soul.

I get the expediency, the modernism and the slick results but give me hours of drawing with the radio on, a brew (and perhaps a biscuit) and I am happy. It took me along time to return to drawing after years of trying to be a painter but I finally realised that there is an immediacy and personality in drawing that I dont want to lose or abandon. My work will always (I think) be rooted firmly around that initial pencil drawing and the manual process after that to turn the picture into a final image. I am fully aware that the world (including any remaining illustration or design industry) may move far away from my approach but I can't see myself changing anytime soon.
